October 1st was the first day of our Mississippi archery season. It was cool for a change, in the 50s, a record low for our area. There were only four of us there for the opener, but this is not uncommon for our small group. Rob, Zack, Chipper, and I were ready for our first day in the woods with some anger in our hearts, not really. We were just happy that the season had finally arrived, ready for some cool Fall air and some time in the woods. I think only Chipper actually saw a deer, although, it was only the flag of our prey. I saw a few fuzzy tailed rats, Rob was treed by hogs, and Zack was "skunked", literally. I've never seen a skunk on our place in 15 years of hunting there. I hope that I don't run up on one, don't like the odds of getting sprayed. My luck is mostly bad, so getting sprayed would be my luck! No shots (arrows) were shot in anger that first weekend, but much fun and good food were had, also some adult beverages and good cigars, complements of Ms. Reggie!
This past weekend was to be hot, so I stayed home to do some projects around home, I can't handle the heat during bow season. I just soon stay in bed, when the prediction for heat is in the 90s in the deep South during bow season. I did go up on Sunday with Elbis, to bring his ATV to the camp. I checked thermometer when I got there, it was 92 degrees in the shade, I made the right decision! This coming weekend is to be in the mid 50s again, so I'll be there to make at least one hunt at a spot I found with some nice Saw Toothed Swamp Oak acorns falling. The problem is that there are acorns falling everywhere, so luck my be the deciding factor, as it usually is this early in the season. Odds are that I may see more hogs than deer.

Well I thinned the hog population a little bit last weekend, so maybe you won't be overwhelmed with the little
piggys. And I also sliced thru a couple of bobcats, so I'm doing my part to eliminate all the varmints, and leave
only deer(I darn sure haven't hurt the deer population yet). But I'll meet up with one soon, I'll see ya soon.
