Last weekend, we had our August work weekend at West Fork Hunting Club in Liberty, Ms. Our main goal was to repair all of our camp stands. Each of us are responsible for two camp stands, but several of us have way more than that. Bubba Bear, Rob and our three new club members took care of the South Side and Chipper, Elbis and I took care of the North Side. We had some over lap, but we checked and repaired most all of the stands.

My crew repaired the ladder on food plot #4, added a window on food plot # 6, fixed the rat holes and the ladder on food plot #7, and added windows on food plot #8. I bush hogged almost all of the trails on the North and West sides of the lease and around the Shower Stand and Piggyback stands. The bottoms have lots of small saplings coming up since we have lost so many large trees from hurricanes Katrina and Gustav. The is still much work to do, but we still have some time before the October bow season starts.

The heat was a real danger last weekend, so we tried to be prepared. We had and ice chest of ice water and Florida Water to soak our towels in to cool off and had plenty of water and Power Aide, we needed it. We worked Saturday from 8 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Sunday was from 8 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. The heat was oppressive on Sunday afternoon, so we shut down and packed up after lunch and some rest. I stress that everyone be very careful in the heat. I suffered heat exhaustion just a few days before the work weekend. I luckily stopped before I went too far that day. I should have stopped sooner, after all, I'm the boss and should have known better! So be careful out there, the cool weather will be here soon!
